I have to admit that I didn't get this for a kid. I'm a nerdy adult that wanted a fun microscope to look at tiny things with. I'm a scientist that does outreach to kids to let them know they can be scientists too. I am so excited about sharing it with the kids but I am also excited about using it at home. It didn't come with instructions but it seems simple enough to work it out. It isn't very high quality, but that wasn't what I was going for. It works and if a kid drops it, I'm not out of much money. I was impressed with all the accessories that came with it. If you are looking for a cool microscope to look at bugs, pollen, etc. then this is a great place to start. I also love that I can use my phone so I can share pics or cast the image to a tv or smart board.

Excellent value - used for 9th grade biology project
My daughter wanted a microscope to do her 9th grade biology project as teacher was not allowing to keep her samples at class room and needed to take measurement over 4 days period. I looked around for microscope and was very confused - you could see number of them with a wide range of price. Since, my daughter was not planning to use it in the future I needed something that would just meet the requirements. She and her project mate could successfully measure the hear beat, take picture and video of the heart using phone camera through eyepiece. This was one of my best purchase on Amazon. Given the microscope and the accessories that came with it, I do not see if the seller would make any money on this. It was delivered as promised within 24 hours - that too during this holiday busy period.I cannot comment on how long it would work - but I do not see any issue with the make. In any case, the value of the product has been already derived with use for this single project. I am totally satisfied with the purchase and recommend anyone want to use ti for school project which require up to 1200X enlargement view.

So I remember looking into a microscope as a child and being amazed, I wanted my son to experience it and thought I'd give it a shot. We loved it, it comes with sample collection bottles so we pretended to be scientists and collected stuff from our hike. We were super amazed at how good it worked. If you and your kid like science this is a great starter microscope I think. I mean im no expert but im happy with my purchase and feel no regret! Here is a picture we took of something that was in water or off a plant. I cant remember

I gave my 6 yr old nephew this as a gift. He is a collector and watcher of insects. He was so excited to get this and spends countless hours looking at insect parts and various things. Great gift for a future entomologist.
